Silence is Golden – Silent Trinamic TMC 2208 Stepper Drivers running at 1/256 Stepping
- UART enabled for driver configuration and data
- Change Modes with the LCD or GCode
- StealthChop2
- SpreadCycle
- Change Motor Current (VREF) from the LCD or Gcode
- SpreadCycle and StealthChop2 take 1/16 signals from the CPU and interpolates them to 1/256 for smooth motor control
- Why TMC2208 over TMC2209? Read here.
Stacks on Stacks of Copper – 4 Layer PCB with 2oz Copper on EVERY layer for Durability and Heat Dissipation
- TMC 2208 Drivers Require a 4 Layer PCB and 2oz Copper
- Our PCB is the heatsink for the drivers. Do NOT install heatsinks on the EZBoard at all, it does not need it and you can damage the board.
- If the others don’t specifically mention 2oz on all 4 layers they probably don’t have it.
- Why do you use the TMC 2208 Instead of TMC 2209 Drivers?

This makes my printer considerably quieter… Now the loudest is the PSU fan and the extruder fan! I love the ease of how to configure and download the firmware. It’s currently setup with a BLTouch (the original bundle from Creality) and works great!

I’m brand new to 3D Printing and feel like I have been having great success. Been researching for months and decided to pull trigger on ender 3 for the tinkerability. Ordered the EZBoard along with the EZABL and EZOUT as my first major upgrades. I’m blown away the installation was a breeze and the firmware installation could not have been easier with the online compiler. Took my time setting up and made sure everything was good to go. First print out took only a small adjustment with baby steps and perfection. The ABL worked flawlessly, the motors are virtually silent, and the printquality is far beyond my expectations. TH3D upgrades were without a doubt worth it.
I have only two regrets. That in my haste to order when i noticed the boards in stock I neglected to log in and get my benchies. And I didnt order stickers. 🙂 Keep up the awesome work. I can’t wait to see whats coming in the future.

I have never endorsed any hobbyist product before…I am a retired M.E. in my seventies… I recently purchased (my brother ordered for me as I don’t have any internet accounts) both your EZBoard and EZABL..I first ordered the EZABL and received it.., A couple of weeks later I ordered the EZBoard, which I received last week…Prior to installing the board, I examined the components that you selected when designing your board…Your design choices were very good which is reflected in how well the EZBoard functions…
I installed and configured both of them…I have now calibrated the EZABL and had some time to do my own initial testing…Your products perform very well together…They perform as advertised and I personally am greatly pleased… The first layers of the prints I have thus far made, in my opinion, approach perfection…I believe that the printer (Ender3 Pro) functions more smoothly and accurately, and of course quieter, which I attribute to the EZBoard…
Overall I am very pleased with your products which are attributes of your design principles and component selections…You have engineered great products which I expect will have long lives and functionality and have set a standard by which to measure other like products…I would recommend these products to others…

I bought this board for a CR-10s S4 and it works perfectly. I got tired of the noisy stepper drivers on the original board and this new board makes it whisper quiet. I also wanted to future proof my printer with the 32-bit board and Marlin 2.0. The TH3D firmware makes all this super simple and quick. Once you get this board, you won’t ever have to google how to do something in Marlin because Tim and his team make this a no brainer. Pair it with an EZABL Pro along with an EZFlex Mat and you have a match made in heaven!

This board couldn’t be easier to install. It drops right in place and the online configuration for the firmware is so easy I had it installed and working in about 20 minutes. The printer is running smooth and so silent all I hear are the fans. Thanks for an awesome upgrade!

This took my ender 3 to decent to amazing. It’s quiet and the print quality is a bit better then it was stock. I got this just so I could keep up with the updates to marlin as they come out. Its a peace of mind upgrade for me I can trust the printer is going to be safe and reliable.

This is a must just to elimate the stepper motor noise. Easy to install and get back up and running even for a newb like me. I no longer hear the stepper motors running. Printer is running silent and smooth. I would not hesitate on buying this again just for the noise relief. Plus I got a sticker and some nerds 🙂

Holy crap. Like, seriously. I am completely blown away by this thing. I thought, no, there’s no way swapping the drivers could reduce the noise my printer makes. We have it in the dining room, so while it was annoying as stock we’d kind of gotten used to the noise.
Once I got everything up and running, I was absolutely blown away. The thing is damn near silent, so quiet in fact that the only thing I can hear are my fans, and some minor vibration if it gets too excited and moves too quickly during homing movements. It’s quiet enough I was able to hear that my extruder motor has an issue–something I’d never have been able to isolate with stock.
Quality is improved, less vibrations = smoother prints and better accuracy on tiny extrusions. I scaled down a print to 30% of original, and it still printed beautifully despite some features being ridiculously tiny. After having struggled with tons and tons of problems with extrusion and leveling, it’s such a relief to get back to the quality we had. The built in fuse is super comforting to know is there, and overall it’s just a great design and structure.
Flashing the firmware was ridiculously simple. Like, I can do it for funsies now. Can’t recommend the online configurator enough, and I’m not looking forward to having to do it by hand when my husband’s Ender 5 shows up tomorrow. Maybe I’ll get him a board for Valentine’s Day…

As an incessant tinkerer, I probably spend more time modding and printing mods for my Ender 3 than I do actually printing practical things. As such my first board upgrade was to an MKS Gen L board with TMC2208 drivers, but it was a pain what with having to solder UART wires to let the firmware choose the stepper modes, and it still didn’t get me 32-bit support for Marlin 2.0. I left that upgrade half finished (and my printer half assembled) as life got in the way for awhile. Needing to print something again, I was preparing to try and finish that upgrade when I read that TH3D had released the EZBoard Lite. It had everything I needed and 32-bit support. Took advantage of the Black Friday deal and ordered one. Finally got around to installing it and printing again, and man I’m impressed! Aside from a bit of trouble compiling firmware with PlatformIO (I used the online firmware builder feature to get started until I can figure that out), installation went flawless and I’m amazed at how quiet the printer runs now. I have to constantly look over my shoulder to make sure it’s still printing because all I can hear are the fans! I’m super pleased with this board so far and recommend it highly.

I’ve been printing on my stock Ender 3 for a year and after reading and watching many reviews on upgrades I decided to upgrade the mainboard with the TH3D EZBoard Lite V1.2 with EZAbl Pro. I have to say at first I was hesitant because some of the reviewers really went into the weeds with configuration.h and other stuff. And I’m no where’s near that sophisticated. I know my way around my printer and basically understand how things happen. But I am really pleased with how simple this upgrade is! Tim’s guides and instructions are really easy to follow! As for my printer, I am amazed with how quiet it is! You only hear the fans. And it really improved print quality. I took time to carefully align the X axis to the frame and leveled the bed – Tim explains this very well in his tutorial – and the EZAbl takes care of the rest! I like the baby steps feature which allows you to fine tune the print head distance from the print surface. Thank you Tim for making such a great product available! I’m looking forward to getting more upgrades from you!

The Ez board was meticulously built with quality components. The online compiler simplifies set up for most common printers by answering a few questions. Although this caters to Creality users, this board can be adapted to most machines. The imported cards out there look attractive on price but are notorious for failing and have poor QA/QC. So you end up paying more in the long run. This card has saved me a ton of aggravation and money of not having to deal with trial and error with imported cards. I gutted two original Adim Lab Gantrys and made some heavy modifications. I rebuilt them using the Ezboard, Tough Extruder, V6 hot end , Ezabl Pro and MeanWell power supply. I was already fan of the Ezabl I bought for an Ender 3. The EZBoard does not disappoint, it’s so quiet you would not know it’s on and extremely smooth once you have everything dialed in. It’s worth the extra money because you will be getting quality from TH3D and they stand by what they sell.

My brand new CR-10S shifted the x axis back and forth about every 5 mm of z axis travel. Replacing the board solved the problem. Being able to set the nozzle and bed temperatures for PLA preheat is awesome. Prints are also better, now I want to replace the board on my well used Ender 3. Firmware update is super fast and simple. The photo show the same part printed on the CR-10S with the defective stock board and the EZBoard.

I actually own three EZBoard Lite boards, one is a backup for the two installs in my CR-10 and Ender 3 printers. The only issues I have had were with a EZOut sensor that went bad. There was no diagnosis message to track down what hat cause the system to stop operating forcing me to step through testing each attach component before I found the EZOut (which I had previously sent in a junk drawer). If there was a dual extruder version of the EZBoard Lite I would retire my CR 10S dual extruder V2.2.1 controller and and replace it with an EZBoard Lite board.

Ender 5 Pro: I had high expectations with the EZBoard, and I was completely blown away. Installation took about 20 minutes, and the web configurator took 5. The documentation is superb, and covered all my questions; resolving a pin issue with a BLTouch v3.1 in seconds. I loaded the custom firmware and the only adjustment I had to make was the ABL z-offset. My initial calibration to on prints are spot on.
This product delivers. I cannot recommend it enough. It is stellar.

I just received my second EZBOARD, and installed it with the EZABL and solid bed mounts on my ENDER 5 Th second one was very easy, since I went through the learning process on the first ENDER 5. Took about 2 hours from start to finish and am printing CHEP calibration cube. This is a great product, does what is is supposed to do and just works. I am working on redoing the cabling on the ENDER 5, to get some kind of wire management. I moved the control box and display to the back and have sleeved all of the cables.

Holy Freaking Cow!!!!! Just installed my EZLITE board. Dead easy swap and straight up flash the firmware for my stock CR-10 with EZABLPRO from the BIN file provided. At first I thought i’d not connected the z axis as the was not a whisper when I was raising the gantry… then noticed it’s moving.
This is AMAZINGLY silent!!!! You could sleep in the same room with this thing going and the only thing bugging you would be the fans in the control box.

Relatively new 3D printer here and love new things and features. Found TH3D when watching 3D printer videos and was initially looking at the EZABL. When I saw the EZBoard was coming I held off and ordered the EZBoard and EZABL Pro together. What awesome products. I now no longer need to level my bed manually and the printer is so quiet. Also installed the solid bed mounts. Install was easy other than the fact I am getting up in age and my eyes are not the best and reading the small print is difficult. So the documentation and videos are very important to me. And the TH3D provided videos and documentation are excellent. My Ender 5 is a much better printer now.

AS SOON AS I SAW THE LIVE STREEM ABOUT THIS PRODUCT, I DECIDED THAT I HAD TO HAVE IT. I NOW HAVE IT INSTALLED AND FULLY USTILIZED AND ENJOYED THE SUPPORT, VIDEO’S, ETC.. I DID HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH THE SOFTWARE BUT I GOT THAT SORTED OUT. THEN THE REAL PROBLEM AROSE, I ASSUMED THAT MY Z STEPPER WAS GOOD AND IT SENT ME CHASING MY TAIL FOR A WHILE, BUT, PLUGGING Z INTO Y SOCKET AND THE Y INTO THE Z SOCKET TOLD ME THE STORY.
I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS INSTALL AND VERY IMPRESSED WITH WHAT I KNOW OF IT AT THIS TIME. I REALLY LIKE THE EASE OF UPDATING USING “ATOM”. THIS WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE WELL WORTH WHILE.
JUST DO IT !

Loved the firmware install from SD Card! Great time-saver. Install went pretty well though my OEM APR probe (similar to the EZABL) wouldn’t work with the new board, probably an issue with pull-up or pull- down resistors on the z-end stop input. So… I ordered an EZABL, and stuck the old Z end stop on in the meantime.
Print quality is very good now, machine is basically silent as promised…now how can we get the fans silent? :-))
If I could recommend something — make an instruction list for the CR-10 or CR-10S because it took me awhile to figure out the fan configuration. Not sure why it uses a screw connection for always on fans instead of a 12 volt pin? (which would have been plug and play)

Purchase for my Ender 3 Pro.
Very easy hardware install as per the video’s, a few issues getting the firmware built (not TH3D issues but Atom). Got it working with my BLTouch easily (after looking at BLTouch/Marlin 2.0 guides on YouTube, re-wiring the BLTouch connector and a little soldering as the wires pulled out of the connectors on the BLTouch, not the best quality, might look at changing to EZabl in future). I’ve seen a good step up in print quality and down in noise. Connected straight o my existing Octoprint no issues. I’ve mostly been printing PETG on my heavily upgraded printer (my own designed linear rails on Y and working on Z axis upgrade). Not solved my slight vertical lines but it confirmed its either a stepper/hardware issue. So far very, very happy with the purchase, would recommend to anyone looking for an upgrade board, not just for the noise reduction.

I have had my first installed on my Ender 5 for about a month. Installation was very easy and simple, since the board is a drop in replacement. I have just finished adding the EZABL and the solid bed mounts. These parts make it so easy to print now. Quiet printing, no manual bed leveling. My only complaint is that I have been waiting for a board to install on my second Ender 5 printer. I have the a EZABL kit ready to go, but need the board!!!

This board is certainly top quality. The soldering and components are very good, MOSFETs and stepper drivers run pretty cool (judged by using a IR thermometer, not quite as good as a thermal cam though). With TH3D now having their EZFirmware site (currently in Beta) it makes it super easy to customize and grab new firmware. I am currently using this on a modified Ender 3 Pro (EZABL Pro, Zesty Nimble, upgraded fans).

So I haven’t had it in my CR-10S for too long, but I’ll give my thoughts on messing around with it for a week. In short, it’s great! Nozzle temps are absolutely rock solid, I used to get temp fluctuations of +/- 3-5 degrees pretty much constantly, especially at higher temps(yes, I tried PID tuning, I suspect I had a bad board). The temps with this board are on target 99.99% of the time. No fluctuations at all, really impressed with that consistency.
The silent steppers are no joke either! I pushed it to close to 100mm/sec print speed just to see and still couldn’t hear anything over the control box fans. Throw your stepper dampeners away!
Would definitely recommend to anyone struggling with consistency issues with their Creality printer or wanting to quiet it down. Well worth the $$ and the couple month wait time

I have an Ender 3 and was really wanting it to be quieter as I print a lot at night an didn’t like the stock sound of the Ender 3. I’m super impressed with the TMC 2208 drivers and how quiet my stepper motors are. The quality of the TH3D EZBoard is great too, I wanted to purchase a quality board not a cheap pile of junk. It took longer to get the hot glue off the stock board then to plug everything into the new EZBoard. I have a EZOut filament sensor, an EZABL PRO bed leveling sensor and the Dual Z upgrade. I’m happy with all my TH3D upgrades! The steps to compile TH3D Unified Firmware Package with Marlin 2.0 were simple for me but I have previous code experience and I was able to compile the new FW in about 2.5 mins on my PC.

Im getting NO curling on corners now printing on my glass bed! Very happy with my purchase. Ordered with Priority mail on Sunday, product shipped Monday and I had it by Wednesday. I gotta admit, I was getting tired of hearing how loud and clumsy my CR-10 was getting. It wasn’t until I dropped the EZBoard with a combination of Meanwell 350-12 power supply and EZABL into my CR-10. Which has transformed my CR-10 into my best printer in my small fleet of printers. Installing the EZBoard was a breeze. Dealing with the firmware was also a delightful experience with the combination of two things: 1. Firmware file on the SD card will auto flash to the board and 2. EZFirmware site to compile the firmware using a Configuration.h file. TH3D is really ahead on the technology front for customers of all kind of skill sets (beginner to expert).
